The aim of this project was to highlight the dangers of blind cords dangling and to produce a device that would make blind/curtain cords safe.
Child safety was the main focus of this project because there was an article in the newspaper about a child who had been strangled by a cord from a blind.
The Action
Leaflets, a website and a Facebook page were created to highlight the production of a cord up device for blinds. Theses leaflets were placed in local shops, health centres and pharmacies. They put out a press release to the Longford Leader, Leitrim Observer and The Anglo Celt.
Aaron O’Connor, a Blind Safety Officer, certified the cord up device and a survey was dispersed to 100 First Year students enquiring if they would buy the device.
The Impact
Links were made with the Business, Science, Metalwork departments in the school, Aaron O’Connor a blind safety officer, Farrell & Coy, Fenelon Engineering, Longford Leader, Letrim Observer and The Anglo Celt.
