This was a quest for a fluoride-free Ireland. They hoped to get their message heard through positivity and exploiting the celebrity and entertainment industry.
Because of the work of the previous year’s “Would You Pay for Poison” YSI group, they had no doubt that they wanted to continue the campaign. The film “Zombie Nation” inspired them. They couldn’t wait to get their hands on this serious issue of concern and put a unique twist on it.
The Action
Throughout the year they worked with environment scientist Declan Waugh, whose knowledge on the issue was so valuable, and stayed in regular contact via email and Facebook. Events included “Blue Glove Day”, “The March against Fluoride, a trip to the Cork Environmental Forum” and the creation of a puppet show to teach students about the risks of fluoridation in an innovative way. They brought the show to schools from toddlers up to third level, liaised with political figures such as David Norris and singer Paddy Casey who agreed to sing a song they produced.
The Impact
Future plans included bringing the puppet show to schools around the country, liaising with politicians and giving a presentation to Dáil Éireann. They were to appear on a nationwide documentary on anti-fluoride activists in Ireland. Their final plan for the future was the production of the drama “The Thirst Games".
