Our goal is to spread awareness of the fact that we are all the same below the surface. We aim to encourage men to speak out about their issues and defy the misleading stereotype of a man.
Our Social Issue
The typical stereotype of a man are unforgiving when they express any emotion or shed a tear. In comparison to when women are encouraged to speak out and reach for help, men are supposed to be 'tough' and 'deal with it' and are considered 'weak' if they need help. It is three times more likely for a man to commit suicide than women, as they bottle up their emotions and act like a 'man'.
Why We Chose It
We chose this social issue as it is currently affecting almost half our population negatively. It is growing increasingly worse and we feel that this has become an urgent matter to the well-beings of many, and is often overlooked for seemingly more important problems.
Our Goal
Our main idea is to create a safer environment where nobody feels judged and they feel more comfortable sharing emotions and ideas. In achieving this we believe it would have a positive affect on mental health which is a rising issue in our society. By creating a platform on multiple media outlets we aim to show our followers, by using our mascot Mannie, not to feel restricted by society's expectations.
Our Innovative Action
We created a character to demonstrate that it is ok to be different and not abide by society's norms. In doing so we gathered a following on our multiple social media platforms, which we believe made a positive impact on our followers.
Our Impact
In creating a safe place for people to be themselves we hope that we have positively impacted the lives of our followers. Our goal is continue to build our following by spreading Mannie's positive messages amongst more and more people. We believe this will eventually have a positive effect on mental health in today's society.
