As a team our goal is to start conversation around sexual assault awareness and make people aware that this is a topic that needs to be spoke about in order to help the people that need it . We understand that our chosen topic might not be talked about freely in our lifetime but one step towards helping people would help us achieve our goal. We want to make sure people understand what is right and what is wrong, some people turn a blind eye to things they probably shouldn't and we are here to help and explain how to get help and where. We are also hoping to put together a wreck it journal with pages of mindfulness colouring, poems, other peoples stories , and pages the people can interact with eg .write your story and burn the page, allow your thoughts to flow away, we are also planning to try have a coffee morning for people in our community to gather together to speak on the subject.
Our Social Issue
Sexual Harassment/ Assault and inappropriate behaviour
Why We Chose It
We chose sexual assault/ harassment because we know people who have been affected by it and we understand that it might be uncomfortable to talk about. We want to make it somewhat easier to talk about. Sexual harassment might not ever be dinner table conversation. We also want to make help and support accessible to everyone. We spent a long time researching helplines we plan to post a short summary of them on our Instagram. This means that our followers will know exactly what support they can receive from them.
Our Goal
Our goal was to start a conversation around Sexual harassment/ assault. We know that this issue is bigger than us saying it is bad and everyone should stop. We would be delighted if we effected change in school and local community. To do this, we will be creating leaflets, diaries and social media. Our leaflet makes the information easy to digest and understandable. We found when researching it was hard to get simple definitions. Our goal was to make it easy to understand. Our diaries will provide pages so people can write their thoughts and not have anyone see them.
Our Innovative Action
We created a stall providing people with information on this issue. We showcased this stall at the Junk Kouture Show. We greeted many people as they came over to our stall. They had a chance to read all of the information on the stall as well as being able to take the leaflets and badges we had. This went really well as people were very kind and open to talk about this social issue, and how changes in society are needed. We conducted research and consulted with many people and organisations to have accurate data to be able to communicate to the community. We also are in the process of creating a diary so that people can write all their feelings down, without people seeing
Our Impact
We have made a positive difference by spreading the information around the school. Our poster on the YSI notice board was put up in September. We also created a posterboard to display when our schools Junk Kouture show was on. These displays were put near the exit of the sports hall so students and parents could see how hard we worked. We also reached hundreds people on our Instagram and Tiktok. We consistently saw the same people sharing and reposting our posts which was great to see. We also received messages on our Instagram thanking us for starting the conversation
