Our Goal is to raise awareness of Fast Fashion and to encourage our fellow students to make better choices when it comes to buying clothes.

Our Social Issue

Our team has chosen to address the issue of fast fashion awareness. We noticed the volume of clothes being thrown out within the community and decided we needed to raise awareness within our school.

Why We Chose It

We feel passionate about fast fashion because it's important for teenagers to know about fast fashion because we are a big part of the group that buys clothes. Companies that make fast fashion often aim their products at us by selling trendy clothes at low prices. This can make us think it's okay to throw away clothes and buy more new ones all the time. If we know more about fast fashion, we can make better choices about the clothes we buy. We can choose to support fashion brands that are more sustainable and ethical, or buy second-hand clothes.

Our Goal

The goal of our swap shop was to provide a space where people can exchange items they no longer want or need, in order to get acquire new items without spending money. The idea of our swap shop was based on the idea of reducing waste and promoting sustainability, by encouraging people in our school to reuse and recycle items rather than throwing them away and therefore, creating a circular economy in our School.

Our Innovative Action

We created a swap shop to ensure that our school is reducing our fast fashion consumption and therefore, creating a circular economy in our school community. We also held workshops and debates about fast fashion with some of the junior year groups. We held a sustainable fashion show in which we upcycled old clothes and made them into new pieces using recycled materials such as crisp packets, CDs, Playing cards and Christmas decorations.

Our Impact

Our swap shop has left a lasting impact in our school as we were asked to make the swap shop a regular event in our school. We have been asked to source a permanent donation box so that donations can happen regularly. We are now planning on running the swap shop each school term, from now on. Not only has this made a positive impact on the environment in our school, but it has made a huge impact on the lives of the students in our school.
