Our project goal is to eventually allow dogs access to Homeless shelters. This result will hopefully help with the mental health struggles that homeless people feel.
Our Social Issue
homelessness, mental health and animal welfare awareness
Why We Chose It
We all had a passionate view on animal welfare and being able to help people with struggling mental health. We understand the struggles that homeless people go through physically but no one has ever talked about what they mentally go through. Those of them who have dogs tend to stay out in the streets, as they aren’t aloud to bring them anywhere else. Having them both together in a safe, sheltered area helps them both mentally as physically, improving their quality of life and their opportunities for the future.
Our Goal
Spread awareness about how dogs help those struggling with mental health and the impact they made into people's lives. Spread information about dog's needs and facilitate resources to improve the quality the dog's and their human's lives with posters and information. With making homeless shelter more pet friendly we could offer a safe space to those living on the streets and providing good care could improve their quality of life and their opportunities for the future.
Our Innovative Action
We made posters indicating how dogs are great at helping people who are suffering from mental health. We also have other facts on these posters also including how dogs could help homeless people improve their lives. We have infographics on the dogs needs and the 5 freedoms. Snout and About Cork are guiding us through the proccess. We contacted homeless shelters. We opened and Instagram and tiktok account to spread the word as well on social media. We are planning to run a crowfunding campaign to raise money to help shelters become more pet friendly.
Our Impact
By helping the homeless and helping with animal welfare, we believe we have a chance in greatly developing our project as it is a new and different idea.Making sure dog's needs are covered and Helping the homeless with their wellbeing as well as their physical needs will help them have better opportunities. We hope that it will have a positive impact on how to move forward in life. Also spreading awareness on how dogs help greatly with mental health could cause people to adopt more dogs. This could have a great impact in society.
