Environmental Dashboard for Listowel Community.

Our project goal is to provide an extremely convenient information dashboard for the community about the environment. We aim to reduce littering and pollution in the community. This can help improve life for both people and wildlife. It can also help reduce the rate of climate change.

Why We Chose It

We chose this project because we were trying to think of social issues which are very common in our communities. We're all passionate about the environment. The sight of litter on the roadsides, streets and in the park fills us with disgust. We wanted to do something about this. We spent some time brainstorming and attended some Young Social Innovators webinars. Cáit Fitzgerald our local Young Social Innovators representative came into help us also. These allowed us to come up with a few ideas. We held a vote within our group. The most popular idea was the environmental dashboard.

Our Goal

Our big idea is an environmental dashboard website for Listowel. We aim to make out town and other places around the world nicer places to live. We are also trying to slow down climate change and help biodiversity.

Our Innovative Action

We have created an environmental dashboard website. We have carried out litter surveys to identify litter hotspots and to find areas which need more bins. We have then contacted Kerry County Council in order to try and take action and get more bins for these areas. We have contacted and interviewed Listowel Tidy Towns to coordinate a plan to work with them on our project and to help them to keep our town and local area tidy and make it a nicer place to live.

Our Impact

As our project is a website for local organisations to get information about litter and pollution in the local area at a particular time, it will not have a large impact on peoples lives until the website is published. We have contacted the county council about getting more bins and signage for the town also. Our actions will have a greater impact on peoples lives when it is fully finished.
