Our Social Issue
Cost of Living, with a focus on basic needs - food, price of clothes etc.
Why We Chose It
We decided on this social issue because if we are able to get through the cost of living crisis, it will give opportunities for other problems such as homelessness, homophobia, and fast fashion. Cost of living is basically the society's problem over the majority of the issues we face. Therefore, we have seen its significance and decided to work on it.
Our Goal
The vision statement we came up with was "“Making all necessities accessible and easily affordable for all” and our big idea is that no person, no matter who they are, should worry about the cost of living. We hoped to achieve both fundraising for those who need it, and to educate our community about this issue so that they know where their money goes but also so that they develop an understanding of giving back in a sustainable way and show that an individual can make a difference.
Our Innovative Action
We are going to donate our money that we have raised from our event of wearing green and spreading awareness of the cost of living crisis to Barnardos so that they can distribute it to people who need help in the crisis. With the AWC we have worked together with them in many initiatives, including the Christmas hampers and the washbag appeal for the women in the refuges with their children.
Our Impact
We have made a positive difference by focusing on the social group most affected by the cost of living crisis and collaborated with Barnardos so we could donate the money that we raised with our event and distribute the donations to the people affected. We have shared our project ideas and educated others on how the cost of living has affected people with our whole school community which includes hundreds, if not over a thousand students, teachers and parents in both the senior school and the junior school.
