We plan to make young people in our community and school aware of the dangers of going on a night out and how to protect themselves and their peers if an unexpected incident were to happen. Our goal isn't to stop teenagers from having fun, just to educate them on how to have fun safely.
Our Social Issue
The dangers that effect young people when they go on nights out in todays society. We plan to address issues such as: Spiking, assault, underage use of alcohol and drugs and to help raise awareness for young people in our community on the issue at hand.
Why We Chose It
As young females the issues of spiking, sexual assault and over consumption of alcohol are social issues within our community. As we become older we are more aware of these issues and how people within our school community have experienced them. We have witnessed the problems these issues can have after the time the incident occurs causing lots off stress and large arguments between friends and family over who is at fault.
Our Goal
Our projects idea is to spread awareness on the dangers of young females going out at night. We aim to provide useful information on how young people can enjoy going out or being in town at a late hour safely, with the knowledge that they know what to do if an uncomfortable situation arises.
Our Innovative Action
As part of our project we have set up both a tiktok and Instagram account to spread awareness on our social issues. We also organized a self defense class for the transition year and fifth year students which informed them on basic self defense which is beneficial for everyone to have if they are put in a vulnerable position. We provided reusable drink covers to our sixth year students which they can use on a night out to prevent the risk of spiking.
Our Impact
Yes we have made a positive difference, as through our social media we have connected with teenagers and young adults. We have made them more aware of the dangers that could happen during the night such as spiking, sexual assault over consumption of alcohol and underage drinking. In our school we have made a positive difference to both students and teachers , By educating them about the dangers that could happen during the night and we gave the girls an opportunity to try self defence to learn basic self defence skills and learn how to protect themselves if they were attacked.
