Our school is a very welcoming place for students. We would like to provide a safe space for EAL students to learn our language and culture to make them feel more comfortable and included in our school environment. We hope to make the school a comfortable and welcoming place for the new students who have come to our school.
Our Social Issue
The social issue we have chosen to address is integrating and supporting EAL (English as an Additional Language) students into our school community. EAL students may face challenges in forming connections with their peers, which can impact their overall well-being and academic experience.
Why We Chose It
We chose this issue because we wanted to support EAL students who were new to our school and to help integrate them into Irish school and life. We believed that it is our responsibility as students to 'look out for' and help EAL students adjust to Irish school life. We wanted to be mindful of EAL students mental health and wellbeing and make sure to honour their cultures, keeping in mind the school's commitment to diversity and equality enriching the overall school community.
Our Goal
We hope to achieve our goals by creating a collaborative learning environment between students and teacher through thorough communication and understanding the eal students struggles and frustration with such big change and/or adaptment to the Irish way of life The ultimate goal for our project is to develop our eal students English language skills further to where they are in the position to be comfortably integrated into mainstream classes.
Our Innovative Action
We have collaborated with another ty class group in our school Eoin 4, we worked together to create a safe space for our eal students to learn, between both our classes we have created booklets,plaques,posters a shelf and a table for our eal room.
Our Impact
We have made a massively positive impact on our eal students lives, the difference in our eal students attitude towards work and school has changed greatly. Our students are more confident and the eal room has also created many new friendships for a students. To summarize our once quiet and nervous eal students now show confidence and character which is all apart of our goals.
