We want to reduce the nunmber of car crashes in Ireland
Our Social Issue
The number of people being killed in road accidents is scary. £9 so far this year thats only eight weeks since January 1 2024.
Why We Chose It
33 people have died so far this year but in September when we were picking a project the class talked about the fact that so many young people in our area and past pupils of our school have died in car crashes. We love cars and the freedom they give us but we know that people forget how dangerous they can be.
Our Goal
We want to reduce the number of road deaths and injuries in our area through an information and education campaign. So far this year 33 people have been killed as a result of crashes. That is 33 people in seven weeks. We want to educate young drivers about the dangers of speed, using mobile phones while driving and driving with drink or drugs taken. These dangers are not covered during their 12 EDT lessons. We would like to see the Garda Lifesaver Project rolled out and made compulsory for all new drivers
Our Innovative Action
We ran a poster campaign about road safety in our school. We arranged for The Lifesaver project to be given to all TYs in our school.
Our Impact
We know that people have been talking about our road safety campaign and so we know we have raised the issue in their minds and that they are thinking about it. We have informed and educated all our TY year group 66 students about the importance of road safety through the Lifesaver talk given by the guards.
