To create an awareness among fellow students of products that have been tested on animals and to encourage students to be responsible citizens and consumers by making informed decisions on the products they are buying. That young people would recognise the symbol that means tested on animals any boycott buying those products.
Our Social Issue
The issue of testing beauty products on animals. We feel that young people need to be made more aware of the range of products that are tested on animals and the harm that is caused to the animals.
Why We Chose It
We chose this social issue because we had learned about animal cruelty from previous ysi groups as first years and we all felt impacted by their presentations . this led us to seek out further information on the topic and we decided to focus on animal testing specifically. We are really passionate about this topic because we all love animals and we cant imagine our animals being hurt and experiencing that cruelty. we also knew this topic wasn't that common to be spoken about so its important for people to be informed about it.
Our Goal
Our big idea from the beginning was to eliminate animal testing in the process of developing cosmetic products. we also want to inform more people about animal testing. It happens so often and only 3% of animals survive this. This statistic shocked us all and we believe its important for everyone to know this. We are hoping to achieve less animal cruelty products in shops and for everyone to be more conscious when they are choosing cosmetic products. our goal for the future is to inform more people and get shops to consider what products to sell in shops.
Our Innovative Action
We visited locals shops to survey the amount of products tested on animals that are stocked. We held a workshop with first years to create awareness about the products they are buying and the harm caused to animals. We displayed the cruelty free symbol around our school and staff-room. We made announcements on the intercom.
Our Impact
Our students and staff can now recognise the cruelty free symbol and can may informed choices about the products that they purchase. Money that was donated went to a charity aiming to change the laws surrounding animal testing laws in Ireland. We hope that the donation and boycott will put an end to animal testing.
