To achieve equality in sport.
Our Social Issue
Project Name: Equality in Sport Equality
Why We Chose It
We chose this issue because as a group of very active gurls we felt this was important to us. We feel that it was important to encourage all girls in our school and the local primary school to continue in sport and for them to see that they can get support as equal as male sports do.
Our Goal
Our big idea is to create equality between men and women in sport. We chose to target mainly primary school children as we feel that the younger the children see both men and women can do sport and be taken seriously it will become 2nd nature to them growing up.
Our Innovative Action
We have taken the following actions. 1. surveys around our school to see how girls and boys attitudes to sports was different. 2. A presentation to primary school children. 3. created a workbook for the local primary school. 4. Held a sports event with equal attention given to both the boys and girls matches. 5. Interviewed a female all star GAA player to get her opinion on how women are treated in sport.
Our Impact
We feel that because the local primary school children really enjoyed our presentation, so we think that we made an impact there. For our tournament, it was clear that we treated both genders equally in terms of numbers watching and prizes given. The success of our workbook and hopefully our colouring competition will help to shape young minds towards sports equality.
