To create a more inclusive and understanding community in our school for people of all abilities and needs.
Our Social Issue
3. Good Health and Wellbeing 4. Quality Education 10. Reduced Inequalities
Why We Chose It
We chose this social issue because we feel it is something that is very relevant to our school and our wider community. We also thought that the issues that people with autism face in day-to-day life is something that should be discussed more. We thought that we could use our Y.S.I. project as a way of improving the experience of students with autism at our school and helping them feel more included and like they belong in our school community.
Our Goal
To create a more inclusive and understanding community in our school for people of all abilities and needs. We want to encourage mainstream students in our school to be more aware of how Autism can present itself like, so that students can be more understanding, and welcoming to SEN students who may feel isolated, and want to feel like they fully belong in our school community.
Our Innovative Action
1. We had guest speakers come in and talk about autism, told us all we needed to know about autism and gave us a brief idea on what we can do with the sensory room in our school. 2. Had fundraising to develop our sensory room . We held table tennis during lunchtimes and held a table quiz . 3. Spread awareness about autism around our school. Made different types of posters about autism. 4. Our whole school did a 5 minute meditation through the intercom.
Our Impact
Created posters which brought awareness about autism. Fundraising to develop our schools sensory room. Had Guest speakers talk to us which brought awareness to our YSI group about terms to use and what we can do to help people who are confused about autism.
