Why We Chose It
Our reasoning for choosing this social issue is that it is one of the biggest environmental issue in our school and the surrounding areas
Our Goal
Our idea is to reduce the amount of plastic waste that leaves our school, after speaking to the caretakers and we discovered that the amount of plastic waste leaving the school is astronomical but the recyclables that are leaving out school have been contaminated by the mix of general waste and recycling. By the end of this project we hope that we will make a significant difference in the amount of recycling leaving our school, we hope that by using our poster campaign and raising awareness around school that students will bring in reusable Tupperware and bottles for their lunch.
Our Innovative Action
• We invited Tom butler from tidy towns to talk to our first year students • We are in the middle of setting up a green school’s committee in our school • We have done a poster campaign and we got the first years involved to make posters in their SPHE classes • We are trying to encourage proper recycling in our school and the surrounding area
Our Impact
We have helped decrease the amount of plastic in our school and the surrounding community, we have done this by making announcements and spreading awareness about recycling plastics correctly
