Our Social Issue
Mental Health and Fitness, relating to dody dysmorphia and obesity
Why We Chose It
We chose to address body dysmorphia, obesity, and mental health because they hit close to home for many of us. These issues are widespread in our school community and society at large. Seeing friends struggle with body image and mental wellbeing motivated us to take action. We felt a responsibility to make a difference and promote positive change. Through research and discussions, we realized the importance of addressing these interconnected issues to help our peers lead healthier, happier lives. Our passion for fitness and well-being drove us to tackle these challenges head-on, inspiring us to create innovative solutions.
Our Goal
Our big idea is to make fitness fun and accessible for everyone in our school community. We want to break the stereotype that exercise has to be boring or painful. Our goal is to help people feel confident and comfortable in their own bodies while staying healthy. We hope to create a supportive environment where everyone can find enjoyment in physical activity and adopt lifelong habits for well-being. By promoting positive body image and offering engaging fitness programs, we aim to inspire our peers to lead healthier and happier lives.
Our Innovative Action
We've taken a variety of actions to promote fitness and well-being in our school community. From organizing fun fitness programs and themed tournaments to inviting guest speakers like Brian Foley, past student, to share their expertise, we've made health a priority. We've also collaborated with teachers and other YSI groups to host events like spike ball tournaments during Wellbeing Week. Our social media presence has helped spread awareness and motivation, while our partnerships with local trainers have enriched our own knowledge. Together, these efforts have made an impact on our peers' lives.
Our Impact
Through our initiatives, we've empowered peers to embrace healthier lifestyles and positive body images. By offering engaging fitness programs and organizing inclusive events, we've fostered a supportive community where everyone feels accepted and motivated. Our efforts to educate about nutrition, fitness, and mental well-being have equipped individuals with the tools to make positive choices. Our collaboration with local experts like Brian Foley provides valuable insights. Social media outreach amplifies our message, spreading inspiration and awareness. Together, these actions have sparked improvements in our school's culture around health and fitness.
