To reduce the number of students who vape in our school. We also aim to stop students from beginning to Vape in the first place.
Our Social Issue
Vaping and the impact it is having on people with a focus on students.
Why We Chose It
We chose this social issue as a class as we think this issue needs to be tackled because if you are vaping at an early age, it can slow your brains development and with vaping still being a new way of getting nicotine into your system. We do not know what effects the chemicals have on your body and your lungs in the long run. We also chose this issue as we believe that young people are completely unaware of the issues around vaping.
Our Goal
Our big idea is to stop people from vaping and encourage people not to start in the first place, because it bad for the body, mostly your mouth. There are some things we would like to achieve with your project to stop vaping. Get the message out there that vaping is bad, and you should think twice before staring. That we educate the students in our school on vaping, to help encourage them to stop. Produce innovative ways to share the key reasons why students should not vape.
Our Innovative Action
We delivered lessons to first years students with the aim of delivering these to other years groups in the future, we placed posters around the school to educate students, we set up a social media page to raise awareness of the negatives of vaping, we looked at issues with vaping and hope to put pressure the government to make further changes regarding the laws around the sale and production of vapes. We also aim to raise awareness in Edenderry town one day to show the negatives of vaping.
Our Impact
Overall, we feel that we have made a very positive difference with a small percentage of students who actually stopped vaping based on our follow up surveys, more importantly we believe we have prevented a large percentage of students from starting vaping due to our project. We also believe that people are now more educated on vaping and they will pass on this new education to their peers in the local community.
