Our Social Issue
Mental Health - among adolescents
Why We Chose It
The social issue of Mental Health and Wellbeing was an issue that our group and school community can relate to. We feel that it is a serious issue amongst our peers and we aim to raise awareness and help our fellow peers who are struggling.
Our Goal
Our goal was to increase awareness of mental health issues and the daily challenges that unaccompanied young teens experience. Our goal was to create a welcoming, secure, and joyful school environment where children felt comfortable approaching teachers, fellow students, and administration for support, in an effort to alleviate the daily stress and worry that education causes. Boosting the wellbeing of others was another of our objectives.
Our Innovative Action
We organised a number of events and activities that connected with our social issue of Mental Health and Wellbeing. We ran a Movie Day for all first year groups and Meditation classes for all first year groups linking in with SPHE and Wellbeing classes. We linked in with Anti-Bullying Week by creating fun activities for the week and raising awareness on how bullying can relate to a persons wellbeing. We plan to run a Breakfast Club during Wellbeing Week, providing a healthy breakfast for every student when they come into school.
Our Impact
We have raised awareness around the whole area of Mental Health and Wellbeing. Students now know that it is ok to talk to someone if they have any issues or problems. We feel that we have made the school environment a more pleasant place for students.
