Our goal was focusing on the topic of loneliness of all age groups. To combat this inter-generational issue we wanted to create a space where everyone from different age group can communicate with one another. We wanted to make a space where everyone could feel comfortable, content and relaxed but to also have a chance to express themselves through art and how they see nature. This way we can also see how different people from different age group see nature from their perspective. We wanted to do all this by curating an art exhibition of the public's artwork. The inter-generational exhibition would be accessible to everyone at any age.
Our Social Issue
Our social concern was the loneliness of people from all different age group and no one doing anything about it. More than one in three adults which is 37% reported feeling a lack of companionship in the past year, compared with 41% in 2020, and 34% in 2018 Globally, 25% of respondent between the age of 15-18 feel very lonely or fairly lonely. We also learned that Ireland is the loneliest country in the EU.
Why We Chose It
The reason we choose the social issue was that more than older adults which is 37% reported feeling lack of companionship in the past year and globally, 25% of respondents between 15 and 18 year old feel very lonely or fairly lonely. Ireland is also the most loneliest country in the EU. The whole reasoning was that we wanted to do something that could help people come together no matter the age or who you are.
Our Goal
Our big idea was that we were going to make a intergenerational art exhibition where everyone have a chance to join and express themselves through art. What we hope to achieve was to make everyone feel included and had a chance to either show their talent through and bring everyone together to communicate and feel welcome
Our Innovative Action
The action we have taken was that we organized and brainstormed ideas and we came up with the intergenerational art exhibition we started with making an open call poster and emailed and give out the poster to schools, art galleries and nursing homes around the area so that people had the opportunity to participate. We did the same thing with our art exhibition poster and gave everyone a notice so that they can experience it
Our Impact
We had different age group come and experience the art exhibition, the positive difference we made was that we created a space where everyone is welcome and to communicate with one another about the art work in the art exhibition. We basically brought everyone from different places and age together
