To foster a love and interest of Irish language and culture and see it being used more often through the use of our booklet
Our Social Issue
Promoting Irish and Culture
Why We Chose It
We thought about this topic for a while before we started school- all of us sat the Junior Cert in June, and reflecting on learning Irish over the past 3 years was definitely a big influence. One of our team members attended a Coláiste Samhradh and another had family living in the Gaeltacht. Both these factors contributed to why we feel so passionately about this topic. Living in Donegal was also a reason we chose it- living close to the Gaeltacht and growing up in a place where Irish culture was rampant (eg. Lots of traditional music, artists and history.)
Our Goal
We thought about this topic before we started school- all of us sat the Junior Cert in June, and reflecting on learning Irish over the past 3 years was definitely a big influence. Lots of traditional music, artists and historical places).
Our Innovative Action
We researched our topic (for information and for inspiration), created a list of challenges and translated them into Irish, designed the layout of our booklet and a logo for our project, submitted an application for funding, successfully raising €250 to print our book, raised awareness about our project in school and emailed a number of people to ask if they would support our project.
Our Impact
Our team has made a positive difference as we have empowered people to change or even just think about their perspective on the Irish language in a good light. We have positively impacted people as we have helped them to be proactive themselves in their pursuit of knowledge. We have created an innovation that people are happy to see and they believe will bring positive change in the future. Our project is unique and makes a change from the usual way that things are taught and learned.
