We hope to change the mindset of people only doing Irish because they ‘have to.’ We hope our actions will help people to enjoy speaking Irish more regularly and implement more Irish vocab into their everyday lives. We will work hard to make sure that Irish culture, language, music and dance is more widely used in our school and the wider community
Our Social Issue
We are hoping to tackle the issue of people not enjoying speaking Irish and getting involved in Irish culture. Many people young and old do not enjoy speaking Irish because they think it is a ‘dead language’ or they do not enjoy the way it is taught in schools.

Why We Chose It
We chose to focus on the decline of the Irish language for our YSI project because it is a vital aspect of Ireland’s heritage and identity that is rapidly disappearing. Irish is a unique and ancient language, but its usage has significantly decreased over the years, especially among younger generations. By addressing this issue, we hope to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the language and its cultural significance. Our project aims to highlight the need for proactive measures to ensure that Irish continues to thrive and remains an integral part of Ireland’s national identity.

Our Goal
Our project is dedicated to making learning Irish exciting while celebrating the richness of Irish culture within our school community. We plan to create an Irish games room, offer lessons in Irish dancing and music, host themed bake sales, and launch an "Irish Passport Stamp" initiative to get everyone involved with our native language. We’re committed to reviving Irish traditions and creating a joyful, united environment where language and culture thrive. What makes our project unique is its heartfelt approach, combining education, cultural celebration, and community spirit to create an enjoyable and lasting experience for all.

Our Innovative Action
Over the last year we set up an Irish games and homework room that students can come to once a week to enjoy boardgames like Bingo and guess who through Irish with their friends, we taught Irish dancing and music to our school and community, bake sales through Irish, taught the local primary school Irish and Irish dancing, encouraged teachers to use Irish every day in class, postered the school with Irish signs for different objects, wore fàinnes, set up an Irish passport incentive to encourage the fun use of the language!

Our Impact
Our Irish games room and homework help sessions created a supportive and engaging environment for students struggling with the language, making learning enjoyable and accessible. By incorporating Irish music, dance, language, traditions, and sports, we brought the richness of Irish culture into everyday school life. These activities not only helped students connect with the language but also fostered a sense of pride and unity within the school community. By making Irish culture fun and interactive, we increased student participation and encouraged the use of the language, ensuring it remained relevant and enjoyable for everyone.
