Our Social Issue

Our team has chosen the issue of foster care within Ireland - in particular, with regards to the issues facing teenagers within the system who often find it harder to get a placement. We hope to spread awareness about the issues facing these teens and try and campaign for placements for them also.

Why We Chose It

We chose to study the foster care system because we realized how little awareness there is about the profound impact it has on the lives of children and families. Understanding the challenges faced by both foster children and foster carers is crucial, as it sheds light on the stigma and misconceptions surrounding foster care. We aim to raise awareness and contribute to a more informed conversation about the importance of support systems and the need for positive change within the foster care system. This knowledge can help advocate for better resources and understanding, ultimately improving the lives of those involved.

Our Goal

Our big idea is to create more awareness for the foster system and support everyone involved in it. We want to highlight the challenges faced by foster children and families to encourage more people to get involved. By sharing stories and information, we hope to inspire individuals to support charities that help the foster system. We believe that with increased awareness, more people will feel motivated to contribute through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word. Ultimately, our goal is to build a stronger support network that positively impacts the lives of those in the foster care system.

Our Innovative Action

We did a fundraiser where we made posters and ran our social media accounts to promote it. We gathered information and posted statistics to raise awareness about our cause. A highlight of our project was having a talk from Epic, which provided valuable insights and inspiration. These actions helped us engage with the community effectively and encouraged participation in our event. Overall, the combination of fundraising, promotion, and informative discussions contributed significantly to our project's success and allowed us to achieve our goals while learning about teamwork and the impact of sharing information.
