Our goal is to raise awareness about animal cruelty in our school among our fellow peers and raise much needed funds for our local animal shelter in Kildare town. We want to educate students in our school about how to care for animals and be responsible pet owners. We also want to encourage people to adopt/rehome pets from shelters and to also foster pets instead of buying off breeders who may be linked with pet farms.

Our Social Issue

Our team has chosen to address the issue of animal cruelty. We feel that this is a social issue close to our hearts as many students in our class have pets and care for animals.

Why We Chose It

Many of our classmates are deeply moved by the mistreatment of animals. Choosing to work on a project that addresses animal cruelty allows us to express our empathy and compassion for those who cannot speak for themselves, such as animals in shelters or those affected by abuse. Fundraising for local charities gives us and students in our school an opportunity to directly contribute to organisations that are working hard to combat animal cruelty. It allows us all to play an active role in supporting shelters, rescue organisations, or advocacy groups that need funds to continue their operations and outreach.

Our Goal

. Raising Awareness: Animal cruelty is an issue that often goes unnoticed or unaddressed. We selected this social issue to educate others about the severity and variety of animal abuse in Ireland. We wanted to educate students, staff and parents on how to care for animals and pets responsibly and what to do if you feel that an animal is being neglected/abused. 2. Fundraising: We wanted to work as a team and link in with outside organisations such as Kildare Animal Foundation to learn more about this issue and run a range of fundraisers for this organisation.

Our Innovative Action

Posters & Presentations: One of the most effective ways to raise awareness about animal cruelty is through visual communication. We created posters that highlighted our social issue catching students and staff attention. Fundraisers: We organised a pet food drive which was a huge success. We had a mini bus full of donations which was dropped over to Kildare Animal Foundation. This improved the lives of the dogs and cat who are cared for at this shelter. We also made pet bandanas and Christmas tree decorations which we sold at a Christmas market to raise money for animal charities.

Our Impact

As a team we believed that we made a positive difference when fundraising and raising awareness for animal cruelty by engaging with the community, creating awareness, and encouraging support from other students and staff. We feel that we empowered people to improve their lives by: Social Media: Create and share informative content on our schools social media accounts highlighting the impact of animal cruelty and the need for change. School Presentations: We ran whole school presentations to educate people about animal cruelty, its effects on animals and society, and how they can help. Fundraisers: Pet food drive & bakesales.
