Goal Image

Our team hopes to raise awareness about how important Bees are and how to protect them. We hope to educate our fellow classmates and other students in our school about this social issue. We also hope to raise money to create bee houses and grow wild flower gardens.

Our Social Issue

Our YSI team has chosen to address the issue of endangerment of bees. Without bees, we wouldn't have insects to pollinate plants or crops which in turn would lead to the decline of food for humans, animals and other insects.

BEE the Change!

Why We Chose It

Our team feel passionately about bee conservation and biodiversity because we recognise the critical role bees play in maintaining ecosystems and food production. Bees are essential pollinators for a large portion of the crops humans rely on for food, such as fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Without bees, these crops would fail, leading to food shortages, economic loss, and greater reliance on fewer crops. Furthermore, bees support biodiversity by pollinating plants that provide food and shelter for wildlife. This interconnectedness between bees, plants, and animals is vital for the health of ecosystems.

BEE the Change!

Our Goal

The team chose to focus on bee conservation and biodiversity because bees are essential to pollination and the health of ecosystems. With bee populations declining, it’s crucial to raise awareness about their importance in supporting food production and biodiversity. By educating the community, the team hoped to inspire action, such as creating bee-friendly habitats and reducing environmental threats to bees. The goal was to protect these vital pollinators, promote sustainable practices, and encourage others to take steps towards preserving biodiversity, ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.

BEE the Change!

Our Innovative Action

We partnered with the Tidy Towns Committee to identify suitable locations for the bee houses and secure permission to place them around the community. We hosted fundraising events, such as bake sales, raffles, and sponsored walks, to raise money for materials and construction. Local businesses also supported the cause by donating funds and resources. We asked students, parents and school staff members to donate materials that we needed such as work, bamboo sticks, chippings, chicken wire, paint etc. With the help of the Green Schools Committee, we engaged in hands-on activities, like creating the bee houses and planting bee-friendly flowers.

Our Impact

We believed that this project, building bee houses and raising awareness about bee conservation had a positive impact on both people and bees. For the bees, the installation of bee houses creates safe spaces where they can nest and thrive. This project had a significant positive impact on the students involved and our school community. It provided hands-on learning opportunities, allowing us to apply our knowledge of environmental science and sustainability in a real-world context. By working as a team, the we developed crucial skills such as leadership, communication, and problem-solving, collaborating with local committees and community members.
