Raise awareness for animal rights. To explain that animal have rights and should be treated fairly they shouldn't be used as a present and disregarded when people don't want to care for them.
Our Social Issue
The social issue we care about is animal rights .The amount of animals given as gifts at Christmas after adoption is frightening. Last year Dogs Trust recorded over 400 puppies where given to them with the common reason being that people didn't have enough time to care for them. We really want to see schools teach kids more about how to take care of animals. They should teach us about being kind to pets, treating animals on farms and in shows nicely, and why it's important to protect endangered animals. If schools make animal welfare lessons part of our regular learning, we'll grow up knowing how to treat animals with kindness and respect. We'll understand why it's important to take care of them and also learn about how our food choices can affect animals and the environment. This will help make our world a better place for both people and animals.
Who We Worked With
We worked closely with my teachers and school staff to plan and execute different aspects of the project, such as organizing presentations, conducting research, and coordinating activities related to animal rights. We reached out to local animal shelters, rescue organizations, and advocacy groups to learn about their work, gather information on animal welfare issues, and understand the challenges animals face in our community. We collaborated with fellow students, friends, and community members who shared an interest in animal rights. We organized discussions, walking debates in classes such as CSPE and Life Skills helping to raise awareness to engage others and promote positive actions for animals. We also collaborated with another YSI team from Kerry, where we exchanged presentations and asked insightful questions to one another.
How We Communicated
We used Canva to create posters, brochures and presentations to highlight our social issue. We created Forms quizzes on Microsoft and sent them to our fellow first year classes along with the Transition year students. We gave presentations to first year, second year and Transition year students. The form quiz was given prior to the presentation and after the presentation to see if there was any change in the knowledge of students. Our brochures and posters were placed all around school and are on the YSI display board in school also. Here students can take a brochure to learn more about animal rights in Ireland.
Our Innovative Action and Impact
We conducted thorough research to understand various aspects of animal rights, including ethical treatment, laws, and environmental impacts. We also educated ourselves about different perspectives on animal welfare issues. We organized awareness campaigns at school to educate others about the importance of animal rights and welfare. This included creating posters, organizing informational sessions, and sharing facts on the intercom.
