Welcome the first TY’s at Young Social Innovators!

Hello everyone!

My name is Bokai, I am a student from Larkin community college. I am very happy that I was invited to participate in the TY work experience programmed by YSI in 2024 as one of the TY students. I will be studying and discussing issues with students from six other schools in the same workshop.

In this week (18-22November,2024), we have two days of online work and three days of in-person work, we work online on Mondays and Fridays, and offline on the other three days.

On Monday. We had a meeting on zoom. YSI’s head of education introduced to us the company’s goals and the social groups it serves. After lunch, we did an E-learning module to learn about social issues. After the course, we had a feedback session and survey.

On Tuesday, we came to YSI and toured the company with the YSI Operations Manager. After that, we went to the workshop and met with YSI local leader Naomi Wardle. We learned how to use 3D printing together. It was a very interesting course; I was almost intoxicated by building my own 3D printing work. After Lunch, we debriefed on the 3D printing workshop. And then we met with YSI’s communications manager, who introduced us to marketing and communication.

On Wednesday, we prepared our work presentations and storyboards. After lunch, we met with YSI’s CEO Roger. We did a Q and A with Roger and then an introduction to the YSI Youth panel with local leader Angela.

On Thursday, we continued yesterday’s group work for a presentation, and then we did a Design workshop with YSI local leader Joy Redmond. We made posters and social issues with letters from A to Z. After lunch, we had a presentation with the YSI team.

On Friday, we are Attending the Wheel’s Event ‘Big Issues in the Not-For-Profit Sector’, End of the event, we started blogging. After lunch, we design our own TY work experience programme.

After this week, I feel that I often encounter some problems or tasks at work, some of which I have never encountered before, and I have not yet fully mastered. But I will not be inferior or afraid because of this. On the contrary, I will have the courage to admit my shortcomings and work hard to solve these problems. I will take the initiative to ask for advice, learn from their experience and practices, absorb their strengths, and correct my shortcomings.

I think it is necessary for you to understand the current news in society and what social problems we are facing now.

Bokai, YSI TY Student

Next, I would like to give some advice to the TY students and YSI team next year. First of all, I would like to give some suggestions to the TY student next year. I think it is necessary for you to understand the current news in society and what social problems we are facing now. This will help you better understand the work direction of YSI. Next is my suggestion to the YSI team. I think you can take TY students to participate in volunteer activities so that they can have deeper understanding.

These are my summary of this week’s work.
