YSI Blog
Welcome the first TY’s at Young Social Innovators!
Introduce yourself.
My name is Angela. I’m a young person from Portloise and one of the first TY’s to participate in YSI’s TY work experience programme.
What did you do during the week?
This week was full of activities.
We started off on Zoom where we met the Head of Education and shadow one of their meetings. We looked through one of YSI’s online courses and completed their 2024/2025 survey.
Over the next three days we were in the YSI office. There we were given a tour of the building by Audrey, the Operations Manager, participated in a 3D printing and Design workshop by Naomi Wardle and Joy Redmond respectively. We also spoke with the CEO Roger Warnock and the Youth Panel leader Angela Waldron. To conclude our in person days we had cake wit the staff and we’re free to ask any remaining questions we had.
Our final day was online once again. We got to attend The Wheel’s “Big Issues in Not-For-Profit sector”. We got to design our own TY work experience and finally write our own blog, which is the blog your reading now.
What was your favourite thing to do during the week?
Definitely the “Design Jam” workshop. It was an amazing ice breaker and help it us get comfortable with each other. It was so fun coming up with strange ideas and sharing ideas to deal with social issues. I also really enjoyed documenting our experience by taking pictures and videos for the social media.
Don’t be afraid to interact with each other. It was so much more fun when we spoke out and gave our opinions. This programme is also an opportunity to make really meaningful friendships and learn the difficulties and effort that go into a not-for -profit.
What would you say to the next group of TY’s?
Don’t be afraid to interact with eachother. It was so much more fun when we spoke out and gave our opinions. This programe is also an opportunity to make really meaningful friendship and learn the difficulties and effort that goes into a not-for -profit. I’m so glad and grateful for the opportunity at YSI
