Molly, 14, Wexford
Focusing on staying protected during this time, Molly’s idea is to address shortages of face masks and protection.
Molly’s idea is to repurpose unused scarves and fabrics to create masks which cover the mouth and nose, in an effort to tackle the spread of Coronavirus in communities
Her idea was inspired by her mom, who wears one of her scarves over her face when she goes to do the weekly grocery shop. Molly realised most households have old unused scarves and fabric that can be fashioned into masks and used to cover their faces when going out for shopping or exercise. Handy both now and in the future, homemade face coverings could be used as restrictions are lifted over the coming months.
While official medically-approved masks and equipment is preferable for effectively preventing the spread of Coronavirus, Molly’s idea provides an instant and accessible means of protection for households across Ireland.
